The Pig Heart Dissection

Learning anatomy and physiology, devices, approaches to cardiac surgery and more is one thing when you are learning from a diagram or a drawing, but is a VERY different thing when you learn from real life anatomy. Luckily for us, porcine or pig hearts, are extremely similar to the human heart! So much so that there have even been xenotransplants of pig hearts into humans! In order to help both myself and others better understand cardiac anatomy and physiology, especially as it pertains to cardiac surgery, I have done a pig heart dissection, labeled and annotated to better illustrate the anatomy our surgeons are working with but also help to better appreciate things like echo, valve sizing, leaflet anatomy and orientation, and much more!
