A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
David Convissar- Creator, Author, and
Illustrator of Master the Machines
My name is David Convissar, MD, and my clinical and academic interests center on mechanical circulatory support, ECMO, and the care of critically ill cardiac patients. I am a fellowship-trained cardiac anesthesiologist and intensivist, with clinical experience spanning the cardiac operating room and cardiac surgical intensive care unit. I completed my medical school and anesthesia residency training at Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School before moving to Boston Massachusetts to complete my cardiothoracic anesthesia and critical care medicine fellowships. I currently serve as the ECMO ECPR Director at AdventHealth Orlando.
I am board certified in Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, and Transesophageal Echocardiography. My academic work includes publications in mechanical circulatory support and point-of-care ultrasound, as well as book chapters, medical illustrations, and other educational contributions featured in major journals and textbooks.
I am a member of the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization. Completed my intern year in Internal Medicine, followed by my anesthesia residency at my home institution of NJMS and completed the written portion of my anesthesia board examination

2020-2021
Completed my fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. At this time I completed my oral board examination, making me board certified in anesthesia, as well as passing my boards in critical care medicine to become a board certified intensivist

Following my critical care fellowship, I completed my fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesia. At this time I passed my echocardiography boards issued through the National Board of Echocardiographers (NBE), as well as the first ever issued Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Board Examination

2022- 2025
Since graduating, I worked in both the cardiothoracic operating rooms and intensive care units at the Massachusetts General Hospital. I am now working at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) until July, 2025

After my year at UPMC, life took me to Orlando Florida where I currently serve as the ECMO ECPR Director at AdventHealth
