Hematology in the CTICU and OR

Hematology is an important part of the cardiothoracic intensive care and operating room management. Between the various coagulopathies one can acquire, hypercoagulable states, various drugs used, remembering and applying the primary and secondary hemostasis pathways, labs and measurements and much, much more- Understand hematology becomes paramount to management of critical patients.

This section looks to simplify and clearly articulate the role of hematology in these arenas. We will explore things like how and why clots form, refresh on the clotting cascade, which tests evaluate which parts of bleeding, common bleeding pathologies, pharmacology and how and when it's used and much, much more!
